Sorry to write in English but we are new to the Netherlands and still are not good with our Dutch.
We are in the process of buying a motorcycle and have our own driveway and a bit of garden in front of the house. Are we allowed to park our motorcycle in our driveway or garden? Or do we need a permit as for a car to park in the driveway? The bike would not be in the way of anyone walking on the pavement. I just try to avoid a fine.
If de driveway is belongs to the garden and the garden belongs to your property then you wont need a permit. Even if visitors to your house have problems with passing your motorcycle.
Be aware that if your entrance is blocked the mail men wil not deliver your mail and packages.
If the pavement belongs to the city parking is not allowed. Permits for parking there are not available.
Officially it is not allowed to cross the sidewalk with motorvehicles to park on your property (rented of owned).
Only if there is an official entrance to your property from de road across the sidewalk than you may cross the sidewalk. The municipality can impose a penalty, or a warning before writing a penalty.
That being said... parking a motorcycle is far less of a problem for them than parking a car on a strip of ground in front of your property, EVEN if you own that piece of ground and it belongs to your property (rented or owned) where you park your motorcycle.
Just because it is prohibited to cross the sidewalk with a motorvehicle.
Crossing the sidewalk on foot with a motor cycle is allowed. Article 2, paragraph 2 RVV 1990 states: The rules of this Decree concerning pedestrians also apply to persons who carry a motorcycle, on foot.
